What is letterboxing? Letterboxing is an addictive international hobby combining rubber stamp artistry with "treasure hunts" in beautiful or unique locations. For more information, please visit the "Links" section by clicking its button on the left of your screen. What are The Central, Southeast, and Northeast Letterboxing Groups...? We are a social group of letterboxing adventurers located in the Central, Southeast and Northeast Florida areas; however, if you live outside of these areas, but are interested in boxing here, you are also welcome! We are an inclusive group, and membership is open to anyone who enjoys the Letterboxing adventure - regardless of PFX count! So...what do we do...? In Central FL, we get together once a month - sometimes more - for letterboxing fun! Sometimes, we share a group letterboxing adventure, and during these trips, we may plant a group letterbox together. Every season, we plan a Gathering, and each year the Fall Gathering is a Camp Out! We also celebrate group achievements and visiting letterboxers with fun, impromptu Mini Meets. Another great event is our Carve & Bind, where we hang out together, sharing carving and logbook making techniques. Group members are encouraged to plan additional events for the group, too! In Northeast FL, the adventure is just beginning! Please check back for updates for this area. As of July, 2008, we added this new section of Florida to our group. A great big THANK YOU goes out to Tee of draygonflies for being willing to lead us into a new territory! In August of this year, a new and daring letterboxer by the name of Lost Princess volunteered to wake up the Southeast region with some letterboxing fun! This area has been too quiet for too long, and her energy is just the thing they need! Welcome, Lost Princess! Why were these groups created? When Three Hearts started Letterboxing, she was surprised to discover how few letterboxes were hidden in Central Florida. She created The CFLLB in the hope of creating a supportive online environment that would help new letterboxers to learn about the hobby while continuing to take the hobby in a positive direction here. So far, we are 111 members strong and growing! The Northeast FL Group was created in an effort to continue to bring a sense of togetherness and community to other letterboxers in different parts of the state. The SFLLB group was also created in that spirit. Hopefully, someday, we'll be able to add the rest of the regions to complete our community. Our History Founded December 29th, 2006 as the Central Florida Letterboxing Group, we kicked off our Gatherings with a pancake brunch at De Leon Springs State Park in February, 2007. Our Group Letterboxing Adventures have been a fun way for us to get together to do the thing we love most! We had our first Camp-Out Gathering in May, 2007 at Hontoon Island State Park. It was so much fun, we decided to make it an annual tradition. Why are there different groups for different areas of the state? Well, when you live on a large peninsula, the ability to travel for letterboxing becomes limited. In order for us to all enjoy social events that are within fair driving distance of all members, it makes sense to have general areas in which we can focus our letterboxing efforts. We're looking forward to meeting you! Thanks for stopping by! Three Hearts, shadohart, and Lost Princess |
